CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) CUSTOMER INFORMATION

Nationwide Restrictions

From March 01, 2021, there will be a daily time nationwide vehicle restriction from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am (including Saturday and Sunday).  Daytime vehicle restrictions based on proof paper such as licenses, tourists with proof of hotel reservations where they lived, and emergency vehicles are still allowed to circulate.  Public transportation will operate well, Costa Rica’s National Emergency Commission (CNE) always updates regarding driving restrictions areas under Orange or Yellow Alert. Based on license plate number the nationwide driving will receive restrictions or not as restrictions. Also, National Parks may operate at 100% capacity, however, bars and casinos can operate at only 50% capacity. If you want to join the sunburn during the Covid-19; please notice that the beach will be open from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Entry requirements

 

All the passengers must have the validity of entering and exit dates to visit Costa Rica due to the policy. (Permanent/Temporary residents must pay Caja for the insurance purpose before 22 days grace period). Costa Rica Directorate of Migration has announced that tourists who entered Costa Rica between December 17, 2019, and November 30, 2020, can legally remain in the country until June 2, 2021. Visitors should make sure that your insurance of coverage for medical expenses for cases of COVID-19 illness-related medical treatment (the amount of 50,000 USD and minimum coverage of 2,000 USD). In order, you are required to quarantine 14 days at home. After quarantine, You will need PCR test negative result, a complete epidemiological Health Pass and provide proof of health insurance covering any treatments for COVID-19.  Any arrival displaying COVID-19 related symptoms, the Ministry of Health will follow up with all quarantining individuals.

Exit requirements

 

Due to the Covid-19, all air passengers entering the United States (including U.S. citizens and Legal Permanent Residents) will require to present a negative Covid-19 test, taken within three days from the departure or travellers need to provide documentation from a licensed health care provider of having recovered from COVID-19 in the 90 days preceding travel. Notify that tourists are not able to extend their stay in Costa Rica beyond 90 days.

Travel Advises

On October 13, 2020, Costa Rica has lifted stay-at-home orders and resumed some transportation options and business operations into level 3 and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 4 travel health (avoiding the crow is necessary). Furthermore, tourists should enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts.

Visitors should keep an eye on the Embassy website due to the high volume of changing and update information (monthly) from the government website.
